presentation

This special event series features talks by three French historians, Anne-Emmanuelle Demartini, Charlotte de Castelnau-L’Estoile, and Emmanuelle
Loyer and concludes with a roundtable conversation between them and French actress Jeanne Balibar. Balibar recently created a performance, called “Les
Historiennes,” based on their historical research about the lives of three women, Violette Nozière, the criminal, Páscoa, the slave and Delphine Seyrig, the actress.
In the roundtable discussion concluding the series, Jeanne Balibar and “les historiennes” will discuss how historians write about, and actresses perform,
the lives of women from the past, obscure or famous, enslaved or experiencing freedom, silenced or exposed to the public eye. While Emmanuelle Loyer’s
lecture is based on her biography of Claude Lévi-Strauss, Jeanne Balibar’s performance draws on her research about Delphine Seyrig. “Les Historiennes”
will be performed at FIAF on October 13.
